The Munster Chamber of Commerce is proud to mark its 100th anniversary this year, celebrating a century of fostering business growth and supporting community initiatives. A milestone dinner gala will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Center for Visual & Performing Arts, highlighting the chamber’s profound impact over the years.

A shining example of the chamber's commitment to service and collaboration was its support for Hospice of the Calumet Area (HCA) during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. As the global crisis surged, the chamber played a pivotal role in helping HCA quickly attain urgent needs for personal protective equipment (PPE) from other health and government agencies. This partnership was instrumental in ensuring the safety of hospice patients, families, and caregivers during one of the most challenging times in recent history.

A few years later, during HCA’s capital campaign for the renovation of its William J. Riley Memorial Residence, the chamber stepped forward again. With a $5,000 investment, matched 100% through the campaign, the chamber supported the development of the 8-unit inpatient facility, reinforcing its commitment to improving healthcare resources for the region.

"I am a proud member of the Munster Chamber of Commerce. Their commitment to community is second to none, and their dedication to creating connections and supporting local businesses is truly inspiring," said Damian Rico, Hospice of the Calumet Area marketing and community relations director. "They don't just build opportunities; they build relationships and create a sense of belonging that empowers everyone involved. It’s an honor to be part of an organization that consistently strives to make a meaningful impact in our region."

This milestone event will honor the chamber’s remarkable legacy and the individuals who embody its mission. The evening’s highlights include the presentation of awards to Citizen of the Year, Phil Potempa, and Volunteer of the Year, Sherry Sink. Guests will enjoy live entertainment by the dynamic Mr. Funnyman Band, delicious cuisine, and an opportunity to connect with business and civic leaders.

“The Munster Chamber of Commerce has been a cornerstone of our community for 100 years,” said Katie Sannito, Chairman of the Board. “This celebration is not just a reflection of our past but a commitment to our future. We continue to support our local businesses, foster partnerships, and work together to create a vibrant, thriving Munster.”

The chamber, which began in May 1925, started as an open community organization addressing local concerns such as road improvements. Over the decades, it has evolved into a robust advocate for the business community, supporting initiatives like the Munster Education Foundation, Heroes Helping Heroes, and the Munster Firefighters Association. In 2024, the chamber hosted five workshops on topics ranging from crafting effective elevator pitches to leveraging artificial intelligence for sales.

With more than 250 businesses as members, the chamber continues to provide mentorship, networking, and entrepreneurial education. Monthly meetings held on the second Tuesday offer opportunities to build relationships and share ideas.
