What an inspiring afternoon celebrating the profound work of our Friends of Hospice, the dedicated fundraising auxiliary of Hospice of the Calumet Area.

On Thursday, February 12, Friends President Courtney Markovich reflected on her journey and the path that led her to HCA, “a calling” that has grown into remarkable leadership and meaningful impact for families across our community.

On that inspiring morning into the afternoon, Courtney and Hospice Artisans Director Lydia Dershewitz proudly presented a $100,000 check to HCA CEO Adrianne May to support our Cherishing Life mission. This extraordinary gift was made possible through their event fundraising efforts and the unwavering commitment of our Hospice Artisans, who have faithfully created and sold handmade products for years- online, at community events, and through their beloved Holiday Market.

"We are surrounded by an inspiring group that just loves and supports the mission of Hospice of the Calumet Area," said Lydia.

These funds directly strengthen the programs we provide and ensure compassionate care continues when it’s needed most.

Last year alone, our inspiringly rated HCA provided more than $3 million in discounted, charity, and uncompensated care to patients and families in need. For over four decades, we have proudly served Lake, Porter, LaPorte, and surrounding Illinois communities, regardless of ability to pay.

"We want to take people and give them the care that they need," reinforced Adrianne May, HCA CEO. "We offer several programs and what we do for patients and families has a ripple effect. All of you contribute to that far reaching impact that we have on our community and we are humbled and grateful."

This is more than fundraising.

It’s commitment.

It’s compassion.

It’s community in action.

This is Cherishing Life.
