They cited a study from last summer published in NEJM that showed patients living longer (11.6 months vs. 8.9 months) AND w/less depression (16% vs. 38%). Click below for the video that accompanied this story.

Former Transitions Coordinator on Good Morning America & Life Part 2
Former Transitions Coordinator Mary Ann Becklenberg noticed memory lapses while working at Hospice of the Calumet Area. Three years ago she was diagnosed with Early Alzheimer’s and has since become a national spokesperson and inspiration to many touched with this disease. She appeared on GMA on 1 /13/2010 to promote an upcoming PBS show “Life Part 2″ which will feature her. She also participated on our team walk for the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Services Walk (see video below).

Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana Walk
Hospice of the Calumet Area (HCA) paticipates in the Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana Walk held in Crown Point. We walk in honor of Mary Ann Becklenberg, former Transitions Coordinator with HCA who was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s and Penny Dow, former Admissions Team Leader. Mary Ann has since become an advocate for Alzheimer’s throughout the U.S. with both A&DS and the Alzheimer’s Association.
