Providing the “Gold Standard” in Comfort Care |
|
At Hospice of the Calumet Area we understand the needs of the caregiver as well as the patient. We have different options available for varying caregiver situations.
Short Term Specially trained hospice volunteers can be placed in the home on a regular basis or for a one time need so that the caregivers may rest or leave the home for short periods. By allowing them to run errands or visit a friend, we help to refresh and re-energize the caregiver. Under the Medicare benefit plan, a patient may be place outside the home for a limited stay of three to five days for caregiver respite. This may be at a hospital, nursing home or at our Hospice House. This does not interrupt Medicare coverage of the patient’s hospice care. Patient companion volunteers are specially trained and available to provide caregiver respite.
Longer Term If the patient lacks the necessary caregiver support or if the existing family system breaks down, the patient may be considered for admission to our Hospice House. |
