Providing the “Gold Standard” in Comfort Care

Hospice of the Calumet Area has several important roles filled by our volunteers.  These volunteers are men and women, young and old, from the communities that we serve.

  

All volunteers undergo screenings, free training, and orientation to the Hospice philosophy of care.

Volunteering

 

Patient Companion Volunteer 

There is an immediate need for volunteers in east

Lake County Indiana.

 

The next patient companion volunteer training session is scheduled for:

 

Saturday, July 12, 2008, 9 a.m.—4 p.m.

           at the Hospice office, 600 Superior Ave., Munster

 

Wednesday, July 23, 2008, 5:45—8:00 p.m.

           at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave., Munster

 

Saturday, July 26, 2008, 9 a.m.—4 p.m.

           at the Hospice office, 600 Superior Ave., Munster

· Patient Companion Volunteer16 hr. training required

                        

           Visiting patients at home, these volunteers provide short relief periods for the family.

 

· Riley Residence VolunteerPatient companion training required

 

Volunteers at the Riley Residence, Hospice of the Calumet Area’s 8 bedroom inpatient facility, assist with meal preparation, companionship visits, greeting visitors, answering telephones and other household duties.  Helping hands are especially needed here weekends and evenings for 4 hour shifts.

 

· Vigil VolunteersPatient companion training required plus 4 hr. additional training required

 

           These individuals stay at the bedside of those patients who would otherwise be alone            during the last hours of life.

 

· Bereavement Volunteer16 hr. patient companion training plus 4 hr. grief training required.

 

           This group maintains contact with Hospice families, either through personal visits or            regularly scheduled telephone calls throughout the grieving process.

 

· Office VolunteerHospice 101 required

 

These volunteers give many hours of assistance in our hospice office providing much needed clerical help.

 

· Community Relations VolunteerTraining provided

                        

           These men and women are members of our Speaker’s Bureau, presenting Hospice            information to various local clubs, groups and organizations.
